Darvin Moon, the man who came in second at the 2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP) is one of 63 poker players registered to play in the 6th National Heads-Up Poker Championship running through the weekend at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
The self-proclaimed good ‘ol boy with the everyman style was seen still wearing his trademark New Orleans Saints baseball cap. He was quoted as saying this will be the biggest game he’s played in since the WSOP, and the only poker he’s played at all has been games with buddies in his small town of Oakland, Maryland.
When Moon won $5.1 million in the Main Event he swore it would not affect his life and that he would do everything in his power to keep everything normal. Recently, he admitted it didn’t quite work out that way.
“You try to keep everything as normal as possible, but you just can’t,” Moon said. “My life has changed a lot more than I thought it would.” He admitted the last five months for him have been a whirlwind.
The poker millionaire is noticed wherever he goes and the target of autograph seekers, though what everyone really wants to know is what did he do with his WSOP cash. He admits to nothing except buying lumber.
